Congratulations to Heidi Lerner on winning the AJL Lifetime Membership Award.  2013 Minutes read and approved.

Old Business

1. PCC catalogers cannot add the date in Hebrew script but LC catalogers and non-PCC catalogers can. May work on changing the PCC PS. Heidi has contacted Becky Culbertson, chair of the PCC Standing Committee on Standards to discuss revision of the PS.

2. First BIBCO funnel is Hebrew and the five catalogers: Uri Kolodney, Neil Frau-Cortes, Jerry Anne Dickel, Jasmin Nof and Sharon Benamou have begun submitting records to Heidi for review.

New Business

1. Dual language publications in Hebrew and English on facing pages: In RDA both pages are considered to be the title page and are included in the 245 instead of one in the 245 and the other in the 246. Israel would like to use practice as it was under AACR2. RDA requires other title information to be transcribed and parallel titles are a core element. This is a display issue but the Israeli libraries can write their own policy statements.

2. Hebraica Cataloging RDA draft is available for review. It was prepared by Heidi Lerner, Joan Biella and Benjamin Fryser. It is mean to be fluid and dynamic, but it not meant to be a training manual. Please review and send all typos and corrections to Heidi. Typos to be reported by July 30, other editing will take longer. A future second part will include examples. Everyone is welcome to send potential sample records.  Other Hebraica RDA issues:

Chronograms can be transcribed or the numbers added and recorded in brackets. A Hebrew chronogram can be recorded in 500 field.

Collective titles for Hebraica: a draft list of terms relevant to Hebraica materials was circulated and accepted for use. Different constituencies have sent letters asking that the use of collective conventional titles be eliminated.

Relationship designators: Do we want to use NLI terms? Heidi would like to update the Non-Latin Guidelines and will talk with Peter Fletcher, who is in the process of revising the document. Lenore commented that using RDs in script is related to the language of the record.

The Hebraica Cataloging RDA Manual may eventually be linked from the RDA Toolkit, but Heidi would first like it published by ALA Publishing.

3. Discussion of modification of Romanization practices and rules. Aaron Kuperman suggested that the 245 $a be the extent of the Romanization to save on the time of Romanization. Problem is identification of items by ILL, Circulation and Acquisitions staff who do not read script but may need to identify an edition or piece. It would be ok not romanize 505 fields. Other 5xx fields can be either Romanized or script paired with Romanized.

4. Makeup of committee membership will be updated soon.

Meeting adjourned at 5:05 pm.

Minutes recorded by Sharon Benamou; submitted to Heidi Lerner July 2014.

Approved, AJL 50th Conference RAS Cataloging Committee meeting, June 2015.
